Wednesday 21st August 2013

Dear Ken Catran,

My name is Hannah Hansen and I go to Parkvale School. In our class we have just finished reading your amazing book, Dead Harry. I really enjoyed it because Dead Harry is really interesting and at the end of each chapter I really want to read on. I am so happy that you wrote that book and I think that it is a big hit for me. I liked how in some parts I feel a little bit freaked out like I really don’t want that happening to me but after awhile, I got used to it. I really like that book. Thanks for writing it. By the way, in our class, we got into groups and we all got to make trailers. I was in a group with Lily, Teva, Zeb and I. Here is a link to the website which has our trailers.

My favourite characters in the book are Elias Milton and Anna. I like Elias Milton because of all the things that he was teaching Harry are kinda gross but in a way, funny. I like Anna because she sounds like an awesome girl and she is really fast. I can relate to Anna in some ways because at home mum calls me a geek because I am always in my bedroom and doing things on my computer.

My favourite part in that story is where they are locked in the cupboard and that are trying to escape but they can’t because there is a fire outside the door and gas bottles. I like that part because it is kind of freaky. At that part of the story, it is like something good or something bad is about to happen.

To end my letter, I would just like to say a big thank-you for writing this amazing book and being such an awesome author. I loved your book Dead Harry and am hoping that I will get to read one of your other entertaining books.

Yours sincerely,

Hannah Hansen

Where in the world?

Where in the world?
All pictures from

Zap! Where am I? I have been transported into a place that I have no idea where it is. All around me are trees and a road. I can see a barn, shed looking thing as well. I am standing in the middle of the road thinking, where I should go?. I am in bare feet and the hot sun is shining down on the road so my feet are burning. I pull out my phone, out of my pocket and I search up where I am. I am guessing South America, maybe Australia. Wrong! It was in France. I was 10318 kilometres wrong. Think of it on the bright side, I still got 446 points.

Zap! I wish that they would stop zapping me into different places or they would at least tell me where they are putting me before I go. All that I can see around me is road and grass but the grass is covered in some concrete looking stuff. Wow! That car was going really fast down that road. I can tell that was speeding. I try to make the next car stop to ask them where I am but they don’t stop. They just speed on past. How rude, I think to myself. The countdown has started and I am going to have to guess where I am.  I pull out my map on my phone and take a guess. I am guessing that I am in North America. Close! I say to myself. I was 3179 kilometres away. Still, I got 1768 points! The real answer was in Mexico.

BAM! I have been teleported into another place but I kind of like this one because it is really beautiful with all of the gardens and the sight that I can see of the ocean. I wish that I could stay here but the time is ticking and I think that I should get a move on. I start to look around then I start to think that I am somewhere like India. That is where I am going to guess. I pull out my map on my phone and I type in India. I was 4518 kilometres away from the correct answer. Still, I got 1551 points away.

I have been transported to another world, again. I am really getting sick of this whole transporting stuff and I really wish that it would stop. I scan the environment and I can see countryside and a road. Suddenly a little idea pops into my head and I think that I should follow the road. But then I think that I will never find the end of this road so I sit down on the side of the road and wait till a car comes past. All around me is grass and hills. The hills and grass was starting to turn yellow and brown. I think that I should guess where it is now so I pull out my map and guess. I think that it is in Australia. Wrong! I was 16111 kilometres away. It was in The United Kingdom. I got 54 points.

POW! I have been teleported into another city and this one is really busy. There are cars coming from every direction and I am standing under a bridge. There are signs all around me so I walk up to one and it is all about a camera. So that was no help. I walk up to someone but they just walk away. I am looking at the flags all around me and I am starting to think that I am in Russia. I take out my phone and enter it in. WOW! That was close. I guessed in Russia and it was in Russia but it was in a different area. I was 1681 kilometres away and I got 2010 points.

Finally, I am transported back home and I have just sat down on the couch when I get a phone call saying that all together I got 5826 points. I am really proud of myself and I really wish that I could do it again. Now that I am home I can just relax and do what I want. Even though I have been travelling the world and I really want to do it again, I am kind of sick of travelling and getting zapped into another city or place that I have no idea where it is and then having to guess where it is. All of this has been such a lot of rushing around but it was really fun. I wish that I could do it again sometime.

Smokey the baby Dragon

Description on Smokey

My sentences:
Simple sentence:
The baby dragon has a curled tail.
Compound sentence:
The baby dragon is sitting on my fingertips while he is breathing smoke.
Complex sentence:
The baby dragon twitched his wings as if he was itchy.

The baby dragon

The baby dragon is sitting on my fingertips while breathing out smoke. The smoke is making the room feel like the oxygen is going away and the whole room is filling with smoke and it is becoming hard to breathe. The baby dragon is just sitting there with his tail curled around my fingertips. I have decided to name him Smokey. I think that he likes his name because Smokey lifts his head and turns his head to me like he has a smile upon his face whenever I call his name.

Smokey started to twitch his wings as if he was itchy. His wings look very thin as if they were very delicate and very easy to snap. I was just sitting there with Smokey on my fingers when a fly comes and sits right next to him. Smokey is only about the size of five flies all put together. I never realised that Smokey was that small. My baby dragon is lying upon my fingers when he starts to flap his wings as if he was going to fly away. But then he decides not to. Smokey looks up at me and he has a sort of look on his face like he is getting sleepy because he has droopy eyes. So he goes to sleep in the warm sun that is shining on my fingers.

Smokey falls asleep just lying there, then his head all of a sudden, flops to the side and I feel like my heart just skipped a heartbeat. As soon as his head flops to the side and I automatically think that he is going to fall off my fingers and die.
"Phew," I say with relief. I caught Smokey in my other hand. Smokey is still asleep so I carefully lift him into his bed and goes to sleep there. "Sweet dreams Smokey," I whisper as I tiptoe away.

Today in class, we went onto a site and it was called GeoGuessr. What we had to do was they would give you a place in the world and we had to guess where it was. We had to do it with our learning buddies and my learning buddy is Josh. Our highest score was 7427. How you got the points is, where you guessed where the place was, it would give you points for how close of far away you were.
Here is a picture of one of the sets of places I had to try.
